I live in a 1000 sq ft townhouse with electric heat. Each room has its own zone. I only keep the living room on about 60(the heat rises upstairs) How come my bill was $265 when I just have one therm. on? What is the best way to work electric heat in the winter months?

We have electric heat and are considering converting to gas. We need to know if the cost for the conversion is worth it, if the difference between gas and electric isn't great.

I have electric heat and rent an apartment in a very old building. Last year, our monthly electric bill was pretty terrible in the winter months. We are renting the place and are not willing to buy better windows, but we are planning on putting up plastic insulation. Does anyone have any other tips that can help us save money on our electrical bill during the winter months?
